Our History

Our Co-founder
Dan Black, Co-founder and Lead Designer, was born in Yorkshire in 1974. After studying Industrial Design and interning at IDEO and Frog Design, he graduated in 1996. In 1998 he co-founded Black+Blum with Swiss designer and friend Martin Blum.
-
2000 - 2009
Black+Blum started out as a design consultancy before shifting to product design. Our first lighting range was a success, followed by the award-winning 'James' doorstop, 'Flik' corkscrew, and 'Loo Read' loo roll holder. We later introduced the 'Propello' fan, 'Hot Pot' barbecue, and space-saving kitchen products
-
2010 - 2011
We launched 'Box Appetit', a stylish alternative to plastic lunch containers inspired by Japan's Bento boxes, designed for Western cuisine. Later Black+Blum released the Eau Good filter bottle, using active charcoal to improve tap water taste and reduce plastic waste. This led Black+Blum to where it is today.
